For Writers
It’s the dream, isn’t it? Writing as your job. Turning ideas into words, and words into books (and other stuff), and hearing people who aren’t your mom tell you it was good. Being able to answer “I’m a writer” when that smarmy sales flack asks you at a party what you do for a living.
It’s the dream.
But it’s hard. Turning those ideas into words is work. Turning those words into a coherent first draft is toil. Taking the feedback you need to make that first draft something an editor or agent would read is downright painful.
It can also be lonely as hell. Sure, the image of a writer hacking away all by themselves in a lonely attic or cozy office is appealing…but nobody at home really gets it. And neither do most of your friends.
Writing is lonely and hard
And that’s not even the worst part of it. After all that work and toil and suffering to make your manuscript happen, you need a whole other set of skills to turn that manuscript into something that buys your groceries.
Or you’re not even writing a book. It’s short-form, freelance work you’re looking for. That’s no easier, and has an even longer list of non-writing skills to make a go of it.
You need a hand.
You’re reading this for one of two reasons. Either you’re at a stage in your writing career and having trouble getting to the next one, or you wound up here accidentally and have stuck around this far because i’m entertaining you .
If it’s the second, aw, shucks. That’s nice of you to say.
If it’s the first, maybe i can be that hand.
From half-hour strategy sessions to full book analysis and editing, i bring my experience as a writer and hard-won lessons from making it this far. We’ll talk about your goals, look at how well what you’re already doing is moving you toward them, and figure out what to do next.
If you’ve seen me at a conference, you know my vibe. I’m not going to bullshit you or candy-coat things, but i’ll also tell you what you’re doing well. I’m not going to give you foofy generalities like “show, don’t tell” or “write what you know”, instead setting out a specific plan of action you can follow step-by-step. I’m not going to throw theory at you. I’ll tell you what worked for me, and what i learned from my mistakes.
If that sounds like a dose of what you need, reach out. We’ll start with a quick chat to see what you want, what you’re doing about it, and what you might change.
